Talking Newfoundland & Labrador and Canadian Festivals on America's #1 Travel Radio Show

I had the pleasure to appear on America’s top radio show to talk about my homeland, and specifically Newfoundland & Labrador, where I was the Writer-in-Residence in August, and some popular upcoming Canadian festivals.

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador

I’ve tried to be passionate advocate for the responsible and intentional exploration of Canada since day one, and so I always relish the chance to share that passion. Last August, I talked about all things Canadian festivals on RMWorldTravel, and this year I was grateful to be asked to do much the same on America’s top travel radio show.

However, this year I was also able to talk about a province that Bri and I fell in love with this summer, which makes perfect sense considering we were the Writers-in-Residence for Newfoundland & Labrador for the entirety of August. Naturally, I was a little short on time considering I was only on the air for about 10 minutes, but rest assured, we’ll have plenty of in-depth content coming out on this site, as well as We Explore Canada in the near future.

At the very least, I think my love for this place shines through in the interview (which you can listen to at the bottom).

What’s RMWorldTravel All About?

In short, they’re the top game in travel radio in the US. The show (which you can listen to here) is hosted by Robert and Mary Carey. They launched the show in 2004 and have since become America's leading travel radio hosts.

Robert has a successful background as a CEO and has built multiple entrepreneurial companies, in addition to working as an executive at Disney/ABC. Mary has had a prosperous career in business and education. Together, they interview top industry experts and travel influencers, share insights on destinations and experiences, offer travel tips, and discuss trends both on-air and online.

It’s been a true joy to get to know them both. Generally, when we finish the interview we chat for a few more minutes, and find that, if we aren’t careful, the whole day might get away from us, as we’ve got plenty to talk about.

I also let them know that Bri has officially joined me full-time, and knew they’d be moved by that as they’re also a married team, aiming to put their best put forward and create excellent content. Don’t be surprised if you here all four of us bantering away on a lengthier episode down the line.

I should also mention that Rudy Maxa is a co-host. Rudy Maxa is a prominent figure in the travel industry. Alongside co-hosting America's top travel radio show, RMWorldTravel with Robert & Mary Carey, he also hosts the TV show "Rudy Maxa’s World" and the "Smart Travels" series on channels like PBS, Travel Channel, and AXS-TV. Rudy previously hosted the NPR program "Savvy Traveler" and is the voice behind National Geographic Traveler's "Walks of a Lifetime" podcasts. Beyond, he’s done an impressive amount of journalism and reporting.

Longtime readers will know that I also have dappled fairly heavily in freelance writing, and so I’ve got nothing but respect for someone like Rudy.

RMWorldTravel has a weekly audience of over 1 million, and it was a pleasure to share a little of what I know with them.
